How are Mindset and Repeated Behaviors Related?

Repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which, repeated frequently enough, becomes an automatic reflex.
Norman Vincent Peale

Let’s start with what repeated behaviors are. They are the things we do on automatic replay over and over and over again. It is our way of being who we are, and they become predictable habitual patterns, and they can either benefit or hinder a person’s life.

How?

Repeated behaviors will benefit a person’s life if the repeated behaviors work for that person. So, if a repeated behavior is for somebody to eat low sugar foods, and gluten-free foods to support their system that’s a good thing. It’s helping to build the immune system and keep the body healthy.

Now if we look at repeated behaviors that hinder a person’s lifestyle, i.e., alcoholism, taking everything personally, overeating, not exercising or smoking, these things cause unrepairable cellular damage and over time create an unfulfilling, unhealthy, mediocre life.

What Does Mindset Have To Do With Repeated Behaviors?

It has everything to do with repeated behaviors because if you are trapped in a particular mindset, and you can’t get out you, will continually be reaping the results of it.

A negative mindset keeps you a victim and do you want to be a victim forever? That mindset is what drives those repeated behaviors. On the other side of things, when you look at the repeated behaviors of someone like Steve Jobs, Raymond Aaron, Tony Robins or Jack Canfield or anyone like that, they are doing what works.

What Is A Growth Mindset?

First of all, you need to learn what a mindset is and to recognize where it is at. A mindset is the combination of belief systems, a person’s knowledge, and the thoughts about themselves specifically and the world generally.

Your mindset is what filters the information you receive and determines how to react or respond to it. A reaction, for example, is road rage. Someone does something to you while driving and you want to kill them. Responding, on the other hand, is looking at the situation, dealing with it calmly and then letting go of the emotions and going on with your day.

If you want to change your mindset to a growth mindset, you need to recognize where your thoughts are at and then work on those thoughts to make them more positive.

There is also a physical side to mindset. Your brain creates chemical grooves for the electrical paths to follow. It makes thinking about millions of things at once easier to do. These paths can be negative or positive, and if you want to change your mindset, you have to in a sense rewire your brain for positivity by thinking positive thoughts.

Third, as entrepreneurs, if we keep doing the same behaviors and expect different results, we will not grow. We have to be willing to learn and adopt new behavior patterns that bring success.

Here is one other to understand about mindsets. Many of them were determined when we were very young before we could learn how to fight the negative ones.

But…

You are not that person anymore. You get to choose now, how you think, how you feel and how you act. No longer do you have to stay trapped in the effects of negative thoughts, emotions, and actions. You can change.

Will it happen overnight? No, but over time if you keep working on it, you will see an incredible change in yourself and you will be so happy that you did.
